This vibrant felted portrait was created blending wool, bamboo, silk, viscose, and shimmering Angelina fibers. Inspired by Patti LaBelle’s iconic song “Lady Marmalade” and the soulful energy of New Orleans, the piece celebrates bold femininity, confidence, and rhythm. The radiant orange afro and citrus-slice motifs in the background playfully reference “marmalade,” tying sound, color, and texture together in a joyful homage to Creole culture and musical spirit.  

This piece incorporates wet, Nuno, and needle felting with wool, silk, bamboo, Angelina, and viscose fibers. MC1 wool fibers were needle felted for the hair. I finished this piece off by embellishing with glass beads and upcycled jewelry.
